After weathering a brutal winter filled with record snowfalls, blistering winds and frigid temperatures to train for the Boston Marathon, Team Brigham runners battled a strong sun, uncomfortably warm temperatures and a grueling 26.2-mile course on Marathon Monday.
“It was very hot, but it's always such a great experience,” said DeeDee Mariano, a veteran member of Team Brigham and long-time Patient/Family Relations representative. “And we all certainly heard Team Brigham cheering section in Cleveland Circle.”
Mariano, who finished in 4 hours, 8 minutes, was one of 127 marathoners - including 15 BWHers - who ran under the Brigham banner Monday to raise money for the Office for Women, Family and Community Programs. Team Brigham expects to exceed its $400,000 goal when all the pledges come in next month, pushing the team's eight-year total towards the $2.5 million mark.
“Congratulations to each and every member of Team Brigham. Your inspiring effort on Marathon day and your generous fund-raising achievement truly help bring Brigham and Women's care and support programs to our neighbors in need. For that, we all thank you,” said BWH President Gary Gottlieb.
